BS EN 10165:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for magnetic particle inspection of seamless and welded steel tubes for the detection of surface imperfections. The standard applies to tubes with a nominal outside diameter of between 6 mm and 200 mm and a wall thickness of up to 20 mm.
The standard specifies the magnetic particle inspection process, including the equipment to be used, the magnetizing method, and the types of magnetic particles to be used. It also specifies the acceptance criteria for surface imperfections and the criteria for determining the significance of imperfections.
BS EN 10165:1996 was replaced by the European standard EN 10246-10:2000, which is identical to the international standard ISO 10893-10:1999. EN 10246-10 specifies the requirements for the magnetic particle testing of seamless and welded ferromagnetic steel tubes for the detection of surface imperfections. It provides guidelines for the selection of test methods, equipment, and procedures, as well as the acceptance criteria for surface imperfections.
