BS EN 50088:1996 is a European standard that specifies the general requirements for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies. The standard applies to switchgear and control gear assemblies with rated voltages up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC.
The standard covers the following aspects:
General requirements: This section specifies the scope, definitions, and symbols used in the standard.
Constructional requirements: This section covers the construction of switchgear and control gear assemblies, including the materials used, the degree of protection provided, and the design of the components.
Electrical requirements: This section covers the electrical characteristics of switchgear and control gear assemblies, including the rated voltage, frequency, and current.
Functional requirements: This section covers the functional requirements of switchgear and control gear assemblies, including the operating conditions and performance criteria.
Testing requirements: This section covers the testing procedures and requirements for switchgear and control gear assemblies, including the type tests, routine tests, and sample tests.
BS EN 50088:1996 was superseded by BS EN 61439-1:2011 and BS EN 61439-2:2011, which provide more detailed and up-to-date requirements for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies.
