BS EN 181000 discusses a harmonized system of quality assessment for electronic components. Harmonized system of quality assessment for electronic components is an internationally standardized system of names and numbers to classify traded products. BS EN 181000 is applicable to fibre optic branching devices. These have all of the following general features:
They are passive in that they contain no optoelectronic or other transducing elements
They have three or more ports for the ingress and/or egress of optical power and share optical power among these ports in a predetermined fashion
The ports are optical fibres or optical fibre connectors
In BS EN 181000, fibre optic branching devices are classified by wavelength dependence into two sub-families; wavelength selective devices and non-wavelength selective devices, each of which will be covered by a separate blank detail specification.
Who is BS EN 181000 - Fibre optic branching devices for?
BS EN 181000 on fibre optic branching devices is useful for:
Telecommunication component manufacturers
Telecommunication equipment manufacturers
Design engineers
Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN 181000 - Fibre optic branching devices?
Harmonized system of quality assessment for electronic components is organized logically by economic activity or component material. BS EN 181000 defines a device that possesses three or more optical ports which share optical power among its ports in a predetermined fashion, without any amplification, switching, or other active modulation of the optical power.
Fibre optic branching devices are classified by their type, style, variant, climatic category, and assessment level. BS EN 181000 give the minimum mandatory test sequence for qualification and quality inspection of fibre optic branching devices. DS writers may add tests or groups of tests to this minimum mandatory test sequence. The Ds specify the total test sequence to be applied. Instructions for use are given when required by the manufacturer and consist of assembly and termination instructions, cleaning method as necessary and additional information as necessary. Using BS EN 181000 you can specify fibre optic branching devices.
