Kajian ini menghuraikan Kualiti Air di Empangan Bukit Merah dalam bentuk Indeks Kualiti Air. Bagi menghurai Kualiti Air tersebut, beberapa parameter air dikaji seperti Jumlah Oksigen Terlarut (DO), Permintaan Oksigen Oleh Biokimia (BOD), Permintaan Oksigen Oleh Kimia (COD), Ammonium Nitrogen Terkumpul (NH3-N), Pepejal Terapung Terkumpul (SS), dan pH air. Kesemua parameter ini diperolehi daripada ujian makmal. Manakala, indeks parameter diperolehi daripada perkiraan menggunakan rumus sub- index. Penemuan kajian ini akan dikaitkan dengan keguanaan air empangan yang bersesuian berdasarkan kelas air yang di huraikan di dalam jadual Kelas Air dan Kegunaan Jabatan Alam Sekitar. Selain itu, kajian ini juga merangkumi Phophorus Terkumpul yang terkandung di dalam sedimen empangan tersebut. Sebagai kajian sampingan, Nitrogen Terkumpul juga turut dihuraikan. Kedua-dua ujian Phosphorus Terkumpul dan Nitrogen Terkumpul ini dilakukan melalui ujian makmal. Bagi ujian Phosphorus Terkumpul, Kaedah Penghadaman Persulfat digunakan manakala untuk ujian Nitrogen Tekumpul Kaedah Molybdovanadat digunakan. Penemuan Phosphorus Terkumpul dan Nitrogen Terkumpul akan dibandingkan dengan kajian lepas yang sama. Pembangunan yang pesat di kawasan sekitar seperti pembinaan landasan keretapi dan peningkatan partanian mungkin menjadi faktor pencemaran air dan sedimen Empangan Bukit Merah yang perlu diselidiki. ___________________________________________________________________________________ This study describes the water quality at Bukit Merah Reservoir in term of Water Quality Index (WQI). To describe the water quality, several parameter index are been used such as Dissolve Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Ammonical Nitrogen (NH3-N), pH and Suspended Solid (SS). Laboratory test has been conducted in order to get the parameters value. While the index parameter value is been determined by using sub- index equation. The results of analysis are related to suitable uses of the reservoir based on the class of water presented in Department of Environment Water Classes. Despite water quality measurement, this study also described the Total Phosphorus (TP) content in the lake’s sediment. As a minor study, Total Nitrogen (TN) also are evaluated. Both TN and TN amount in the sediment is determined by conducting laboratory test. For TP, Molybdovanadate Method is used while for TN Persulphate Digestion method is used. The findings of TP and TN are compared with the findings of previous study about it. There is highly infrastructure development at the case study area which is railways construction on going. Besides, increasing of agricultural scheme and residential area are the source of water and sediment pollution at the case study area.
