BS EN 60831-2:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for power capacitors and their associated reactors for use in power systems.
The standard covers capacitors and reactors that are designed to improve the power factor and/or reduce harmonic distortion in power systems, thereby increasing the efficiency of the system and reducing energy losses. It provides guidelines for the construction, performance, and testing of these devices, including requirements for aspects such as the dielectric material, the winding, and the enclosure.
BS EN 60831-2:1996 also provides information on the application of power capacitors and reactors in power systems, including guidance on the selection and installation of these devices, as well as recommendations for their maintenance and operation.
The standard is intended for use by manufacturers, designers, and users of power capacitors and reactors. It aims to ensure that these devices are safe, reliable, and perform their intended function in improving the power quality of the system.
BS EN 60831-2:1996 has been superseded by BS EN 60831-1:2014 which is the latest version of the standard.
