In the present study, the performance of zeolites, Y zeolite-Na+, Y zeolite-NH4+, Modernite and ZSM-5, in terms of pore size was investigated in deoxygenation of used palm oil (UPO). The catalytic reactions were carried out in a fixed bed reactor at reaction temperature of 350 oC and weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 4 hr-1 continuously for 6 hours. Conversions of four major fatty acids which are palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid were reported the best by ZSM-5 at 94.06%, 97.48%, 97.40% and 99.54% respectively. In addition, combinations of tri-metals, such as Ni, Sn, Mg, Co and Mo , were loaded to ZSM-5 at ratio of 1:1:1 to evaluate the effect of metals in deoxygenation of UPO. The combination of NiSnMo/ZSM-5 presented the highest conversion of palmitic acid (90.52%), stearic acid (98.45%), oleic acid (96.85%) and linoleic acid (99.72%). Finally, the deoxygenation of UPO was studied by altering the ratio of Mo-loading on NiSnMo/ZSM-5 to select the optimum tri-metals loading on ZSM-5. With the highest conversions of palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid reported at 90.52%, 98.45%, 96.85% and 99.72% respectively, NiSnMo/ZSM-5, which is at ratio of 1:1:1, was chosen as the best catalyst.
