Membran alumina superhidrofobik dapat dihasilkan dalam penyelidikan ini melalui kaedah grafting dengan fluoroalkylsilane (FAS) atas permukaan alumina yang tidak diubahsuai. Berikut adalah parameter yang dikaji dalam penyelidikan ini : jangka masa rendaman semasa grafting, jenis pelarut yang diguna dan jenis silane yang diguna untuk grafting. Membran alumina yang telah digraft akan dicirikan untuk ukuran sudut dengan menggunakan contact angle goniometer dan rintangan pemindahan jisim melalui porometer. Selain itu, morfologi and analisis unsur akan dilakukan dengan menggunakan scanning electron microscope (SEM) dan electron dispersive X-ray (EDX). Sample EH mempamerkan sudut tertinggi and juga mencapai cirri superhidrofobik dengan 152.26° pada jangka masa rendaman sebanyak 20minit. Sementara itu, HH sampel mencapai berhampiran dengan ciri superhydrophobic tanpa mengira jangka masa rendaman. Membran alumina yg digraft secara amnya menunjukkan peningkatan rintangan pemindahan besar-besaran berbanding dengan sokongan alumina yang tidak diubahsuai. Secara keseluruhan, sampel ET mempamerkan rintangan pemindahan jisim terendah dan sampel EH mempunyai rintangan pemindahan jisim yang tertinggi. Ini seterusnya dijelaskan dengan rintangan dikira, di mana sampel EH mempunyai rintangan yang paling tinggi iaitu 339.5 Gm-1 berbanding sampel ET yang hanya merekodkan sebanyak 58.5 Gm-1 sahaja. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Superhydrophobic alumina membrane was synthesized in this research by direct grafting with fluoroalkylsilanes (FAS) on alumina support. The following parameters were studied: immersion time for grafting, types of solvent used in grafting solution and types of silane used for grafting. The grafted alumina membrane was characterized for contact angle measurement using contact angle goniometer and mass transfer resistance using porometer. Besides that, morphologies and elemental analysis of membrane are done by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electron dispersive X-ray (EDX) respectively. The EH samples exhibited the highest contact angle data and achieved superhydropbic characteristic with 152.26° at 20 minutes of immersion time. Meanwhile, HH samples achieved near to superhydrophobic characteristic regardless of immersion time. The directly grafted alumina membranes generally showed an increase in mass transfer resistance compared to unmodified alumina support. Overall, ET samples exhibited the lowest mass transfer resistance and EH samples have the highest mass transfer resistance. This is further clarified with the resistance calculated, whereby EH samples have the highest resistance at 339.5 Gm-1 compared to ET samples of 58.5 Gm-1 only.
