Malaysia kini sedang menghadapi perubahan pembangunan pesat yang mana mengubah kitar hidrologi dan menyebabkan banjir kerap berlaku. Oleh itu pengurusan air ribut adalah penting untuk mengawal masalah yang melibatkan banjir. Struktur seperti kolam takungan memainkan peranan yang penting dalam mengatasi dan mengawal masalah banjir tersebut. Jadi, ia seharusnya direka dengan tepat menggunakan lengkung Keamatan-Tempoh-Kekerapan (IDF). Lengkung ini telah digunakan secara meluas dalam pengurusan air dan pencegahan banjir di Malaysia. Ianya dapat dihasilkan menggunakan garis panduan Manual Saliran Mesra Alam (MSMA). Oleh kerana hujan kebiasaannya dikaitkan dengan tempoh dan keamatan, tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk menghasilkan lengkung IDF bagi stesen-setesen terpilih di Pulau Pinang. Kaedah taburan analisis yang digunakan adalah Taburan Gumbel dan Taburan Log-Pearson Type III dan hasil daripada kedua-dua kaedah ini dibandingkan dengan nilai-nilai IDF yang dihasilkan oleh garis panduan MSMA. Daripada keputusan yang diperolehi, Taburan Gumbel adalah disyorkan untuk analisis kekerapan hujan berbanding Taburan Log-Pearson Type III. Kajian ini juga menghasilkan lengkung selubung yang dibuat melalui anggaran lengkung tidak berdimensi massa. Lengkung selubung yang dihasilkan adalah lengkung luar kerana ianya memberikan keamatan hujan yang tinggi dalam tempoh yang singkat. Lengkung ini dinyatakan dalam peratusan kumulatif keamatan hujan dan peratusan kumulatif tempoh hujan yang boleh menganggarkan ciri-ciri taburan masa. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Malaysia nowadays is having a rapid development changes which dramatically alter the hydrological cycle and flash floods frequently. Thus, stormwater management is very important to prevent problem involving flood. Structural like detention pond play a very important role in overcome and controlling this problem. Therefore, it must be design properly with precise and accurate Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curve. Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curve is a key in design storm estimation. It has been used widely in water management and preventions of floods. The IDF curve in Malaysia can be established using the guideline which is Urban Stormwater Management Manual (MSMA). Because of the rainfall are usually relate with intensity and durations, the aim of this study is to construct IDF curve for chosen rainfall station in Pulau Pinang. The analyses used are Gumbel Distribution and Log-Pearson Type III and the results of these two methods are being compared with IDF values from the guideline. From the results of comparisons obtained, it is suggested that Gumbel Distribution is recommended for probability distribution for rainfall frequency analysis compared to Log-Pearson Type III. This study also indicates that envelope curve which is the outermost curve from dimensionless mass rainfall curve. This envelope curve can be used in designing flood structural because it would give high rainfall depth in short time duration. The curve is expressed in cumulative percentage of rainfall depth and rainfall duration which is can estimate the time-distribution characteristics. It is also can be useful for post-storm assessment of individual storm events.
