This part of Malaysian Standard applies to the radiographic examination of welded joints in steel plates, pipes, pressure vessels, boiler tubes, penstocks and other cylindrical bodies of thickness up to and including 50 mm wall thickness.
This standard does not lay down radiographic criteria of acceptance and rejection for the joints, but it concerned with the radiographic techniques to be used.
Since the quality of a radiograph cannot be fully ensured by the use of an image quality indicator (IQI), this part of Malaysian Standard indicates the method necessary to obtain comparable radiographs from different origins (see 4.8).
Steel in this context covers stainless steel.
If the techniques described are used correctly, it should be possible to obtain, without difficulty, the IQI values in Appendix A as minimum requirements.
