Laporan ini menghuraikan tentang proses pemisahan phenol menggunakan membran cair emulsi. Larutan phenol disediakan dengan melarutkan kristal phenol ke dalam air suling. Membran cair emulsi disediakan dengan menggunakan natrium hidroksida, minyak tanah, paraffin dan Span 80. Parameter berbeza dikaji untuk menentukan parameter yang optimum bagi ciri-ciri membran cair emulsi. Ia dapat ditentukan dengan mempelbagaikan nilai parameter dan mengkaji kesannya ke atas peratusan pemisahan phenol. Parameter optimum yang diperolehi telah dibandingkan dengan parameter optimum yang diperolehi oleh kajian-kajian yang terdahulu. Dalam kajian ini, parameter optimum yang diperolehi ialah 5:1 bagi nisbah isipadu kepada nisbah membran:fasa dalam, 6000 pusingan perminit untuk halaju emulsifikasi, 30 minit untuk emulsifikasi masa, 1.0M NaOH dan 2% kepekatan surfaktan kepada kepekatan membran. Parameter optimum yang diperolehi digunakan untuk mendapatkan peratusan maksimum untuk pemisahan phenol. ___________________________________________________________________________________ This report describes the process of phenol separation by using emulsion liquid membrane. Phenol solution was prepared by dissolving phenol crystals in distilled water. Emulsion liquid membrane prepared by using sodium hydroxide, kerosene, paraffin wax and Span 80. Different parameters were study to determine the optimum parameters for the membrane properties of emulsion liquid membrane. It can be determined by varying the value of parameters and study the effect to the percentage of removal of phenol. The optimum parameters that obtained were compared with optimum parameters that were obtained from previous work. In this study, the optimum parameter that been obtained are 5:1 by volume of membrane: internal phase ratio, 6000 rpm for emulsification speed, 30 minutes for emulsification time, 1.0M NaOH and 2% of surfactant concentration by membrane volume. The optimum parameter is used to obtain the maximum percentage of phenol removal.
