Penyingkiran Cd(II) ion dari aliran akues menggunakan emulsi membran cecair telah dikaji. Objektif penyelidikan ini adalah untuk mengkaji parameter yang optimum untuk mencapai penyingkiran Cd(II) yang tertinggi daripada fasa luaran. Fasa membran telah disediakan dengan melarutkan Trioctylamine (TOA) sebagai pembawa dan Span 80 sebagai surfaktan dalam minyak tanah. Penyelidikan ini telah dijalankan untuk mengkaji kesan kepekatan fasa dalaman, kelajuan kacau, masa pengekstrakan dan kesan kepekatan asid dalam fasa luaran ke arah kecekapan penyingkiran Cd(II). Kacau konvensional menyebabkan ricih yang berlebihan dan mengganggu kestabilan emulsi. Untuk menangani masalah ini, Kolum Taylor Couette digunakan. Kolum Taylor Couette membantu dalam mengekalkan kestabilan emulsi walaupun pada kelajuan yang tinggi. Kesan frekuensi Kolum Taylor Couette dan masa pengekstrakan telah dikaji dan dibandingkan dengan kacau konvensional. Penyingkiran Cd(II) yang tinggi daripada fasa luaran boleh dicapai dengan masa pengekstrakan yang lebih pendek. Proses demulsifikasi menggunakan sinaran gelombang mikro dan penggunaan semula fasa membran telah ditunjukkan dan dibincangkan. Penyelidikan ini mendedahkan bahawa dua kali penggunaan semula fasa membran akan meningkatkan ratio kepekatan Cd(II) secara signifikan dalam fasa luaran. Ini disebabkan oleh kecekapan pemisahan yang rendah semasa proses demulsifikasi menggunakan radiasi gelombang mikro. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The removal of Cd(II) ions from aqueous stream using Emulsion Liquid Membrane(ELM) was investigated. The objective of this research was to study the optimum parameter to achieve highest Cd(II) removal from the external phase. The membrane phase was prepared by dissolving Trioctylamine (TOA) as carrier and Span 80 as surfactant in Kerosene. This research was carried out to study the effects of internal phase concentration, stirring speed, extraction time and effect of concentration of acid in external phase towards Cd(II) removal efficiency. As conventional stirring causes excessive shear and disrupt the stability of emulsion, Taylor Couette Column was used to tackle this problem. Taylor Couette Column helped in maintaining emulsion stability even at high speed. The effect of Taylor Couette Column frequency and extraction time was studied and its performance was compared with conventional stirring. High removal of Cd(II) from external phase can be achieved with shorter extraction time. Also, demulsification process using microwave radiation and reuse of membrane phase was demonstrated and discussed. This study revealed that two times of reuse of membrane phase will significantly increase the concentration ratio of Cd(II) in the external phase. This is due to the low separation efficiency achieved during demulsification process using microwave radiation.
