A case study on the suitable bored pile design in various soil condition / Nurul Hafizah Mohd Rapigh
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This research was conducted to investigate the suitable length of piles designed for the construction work project at EKOCHERAS, Kuala Lumpur. Foundations are among the important elements in construction, without which, the design of a building cannot be proper. Collapse or cracking in structure may happen if the important aspect such as foundation design is neglected. Generally, a good design must start with a good soil investigation. The soil investigation is important to obtain clearer information clear information about the soil and hydrological conditions at the site this means the inspection of the site and study of topography to get proper information about the soil and ground water condition. Based on the soil investigation result, the designer can start designing the length of bored piles to get the initial length for how many depth that need to be bored at the site. However, the individual in charge at the site such as Resident Engineer or consultant engineer need to confirm the suitable length to ensure building or structure element will be built in safe and economically. This study should that the suitable depth that needs to be constructed at the site should depend on actual findings during boring for the particular pile. This study also found that for about more than 20 piles, the best depths were shallower than earlier designed based on soil investigation information which implied financial saving. In cases involving, more than 10 position rock was found when such no indicated in SI reports, which were taken as the base for the bored piles. However, for a small number of positions, the decided find depths were exactly the same as designed based on SI report or even deeper.
