Umum mengetahui bahawa teknologi pembuatan menggunakan „selain autoklaf‟ (OOA) telah digunakan untuk mereka and menghasilkan komponen kapal terbang yang bersaiz besar pada kadar kos yang lebih rendah berbanding autoklaf. Teknologi OOA membolehkan komposit dihasilkan dengan menggunakan hanya tekanan vakum, ini bermakna tiada keperluan untuk pembelian dan pengendalian autoklaf. Kelebihan OOA prepreg adalah ia direka untuk membuang udara yang terperangkap semasa proses menyusun. Semasa pebuatan struktur sandwich dengan menggunakan teras „honeycomb‟,lebihan isipadu udara adalah wujud. Hasil kajian yang dilakukan oleh Tavares et al. [1] tentang kesan penyerapan udara lapisan prepreg menerusi-ketebalan untuk membuang udara di dalam teras, mereka meyedari bahawa tekanan dalaman teras adalah berkaitan dengan keliatan patah dan keporosan lapisan kulit. Pelbagai faktor yang menyumbang kepada tekanan dalam teras termasuklah tekanan vakum, penyusunan lapisan kulit dan pengurusan vakum beg. Tesis ini membentangkan keputusan hasil daripada kajian tentang kesan parameter pemprosesan terhadap kualiti struktur sandwich and tekanan dalam teras struktur laminat sandwich yang dihasilkan melalui teknik OOA. Lapan panel sandwich telah dihasilkan berlandaskan parameter pemprosesan yang berbeza iaitu „edge breathing‟, „debulked suhu bilik‟ dan jenis filem pembebasan. Tekanan dalam teras sandwich laminat dikaji dengan berpandukan tetapan yang telah dikaji oleh Tavares et al. [1]. Perbezaan parameter pemprosesan memberi variasi dalam pengukuran tekanan dalam teras. ______________________________________________________________________________________ `Well known that Out-of-Autoclave (OOA) manufacturing technology is being used to design and manufacture larger size components at lower costs compared to autoclave. OOA technology enables composites to be produced using only vacuum pressure, which means that there is no need of purchasing and operating an autoclave. The specialty of OOA prepreg is that they are designed to remove air entrapped during the lay-up process. When manufacturing sandwich structures with a honeycomb core, an additional volume of air is present. From the studied done by Tavares et al. [1] on the effect of through thickness air permeability of prepreg skins to remove the air inside the core, they observed that the internal core pressure is related to the fracture toughness and porosity of the skin. Many factors contribute to the pressure inside the core including the vacuum pressure, layup and bagging arrangement. This thesis presents the results of a study on the effect of processing parameters on the quality of the sandwich structures and the internal core pressure of sandwich laminates manufactured by OOA methods. Eight sandwich panels were manufactured with different processing parameters which are edge breathing, room temperature debulked and the type of release film used. The internal core pressure of the sandwich laminates are then investigated by following the setup studied by Tavares et al. [1]. The manipulated processing parameters give the variation in the internal core pressure measurement.
