This standard, which is Part 1 of the ISO 4589 series, offers guidance on the determination of the oxygen index for plastics. The oxygen index is a measure of the minimum concentration of oxygen in a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen that supports the combustion of a material. It is an important parameter for assessing the flammability of plastics.
