Pinang. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Catchment response are caused by various different factors. Urbanisation is one of the major factors causing hydrological changes to the world. Penang Island is also one of the most rapid growing city in Malaysia. This is shown by Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) flood mitigation projects to counter flood problems in Malaysia. Since city development will cause changes in impervious land percentage. It is necessary to understand the relationship between land use and catchment response. Precipitation runoff models are widely used in predicting changes in hydrologic processes. HEC HMS is a one of the common rainfall runoff models released by US Army Corps. The model will be able to simulate the rainfall runoff in the Sungai Pinang Catchment. Analysis of the land use changes on the catchment runoff showed that increase of commercial development shows a highest increase in peak discharge compared with agricultural expansion. The HEC HMS has been used as modeling tool in this study. HEC HMS is able to simulate the design runoff hydrograph of Sg. Pinang catchment.
