Faktor kuasa yang rendah membawa kecekapan yang rendah dalam sistem kuasa. Oleh itu, kapasitor dipasang untuk meningkatkan faktor kuasa. Walau bagaimanaupun, dalam kaedah tradisional bagi pembetulan faktor kuasa kapasitor, penjimatan tenaga untuk kemudahan yang mempunyai beban linear dan beban tidak linear masih belum dicapai. Kapacitor cuma dapat meningkatkan faktor kuasa penggantian. Beban tidak linear menghasilkan harmonik yang tidak boleh diperbaiki dengan kapasitor. Oleh itu, jumlah faktor kuasa tidak banyak meningkat apabila faktor kuasa penggantian meningkat disebabkan jumlah gangguan harmonik dalam sistem kuasa. Harmonik menyebabkan kehilangan kuasa yang tinggi, kerosakan peralatan elekrtik dan kos yang tinggi untuk kuasa yang tidak boleh digunakan. Dalam projek ini, kesan pembetulan faktor kuasa kapasitor kepada faktor kuasa dalam sistem pengagihan elekrik kuasa moden akan dikenalpasti dengan menggunakan tiga proses. Langkah pertama yang akan dilakukan ialah mengumpul maklumat tentang ciri-ciri beban dari Papan Agihan Moden PPKEE untuk mengenalpastikan ciri-ciri sebenar dalam sistem pengagihan elektrik kuasa moden. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh, model yang mempunyai ciri-ciri yang sama dirangka menggunakan perisian Powersim. Pelaksanaan bank kapasitor di dalam sistem bertujuan untuk menaikkan faktor kuasa kerana faktor kuasa tidak mencapai keperluan minimum 0.85. Selepas itu, eksperimen dijalankan berpandukan dengan litar simulasi. Akhir sekali, proses analisis untuk simulasi dan eksperimen dilakukan. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Low power factor leads to low efficiency in power system. Therefore, capacitor bank is implemented in order to improve power factor. However, in traditional method of power factor correction capacitors, it does not actually achieve the energy savings in facilities which having both linear and non-linear loads. Capacitor only focuses on improving displacement power factor. Harmonics that produced by non-linear loads cannot be corrected by using capacitors. Hence, total power factor does not increase much when displacement power factor increases due to the present of total harmonic distortion of current in power system. Harmonics cause high power losses in system, damages to equipment and high cost for non-usable power. In this project, study on the effect of power factor correction capacitor to power factor on modern power distribution system is carried out by using three processes. First, data is collected from distribution board at PPKEE to determine the real time characteristic of modern power distribution system. Next, simulation is carried out by using Powersim software to build a model circuit based on the data collected. As the power factor is lower than minimum requirement 0.85, a range of capacitors will be installed to increase the power factor. Then, experiment is also conducted based on the simulation circuit. Lastly, analysis on results of simulation and experiments is carried out.
