Populasi rakyat Malaysia semakin meningkat setanding dengan pembangunan negara. Ini secara tidak langsung akan menyebabkan peningkatan dari segi pembuangan bahan sisa dan jika ianya tidak dikawal dengan baik, kemungkinan untuk berlakunya pencemaran air amat tinggi. Antara punca yang boleh menyebabkan pencemaran air ialah pembuangan sampah bagi penempatan di kawasan nelayan, aktiviti masyarakat yang tidak bertanggungjawab, air sampah yang mengalir bersama air hujan, pertanian, tumpahan minyak dan sebagainya. Oleh itu, langkah yang sewajarnya perlu diambil bagi memastikan ia bebas daripada pencemaran. Tujuan utama projek tahun ini adalah untuk mengkaji kualiti air yang mungkin di sebabkan oleh air sampah berhampiran tapak pelupusan sampah ,Pulau Burung. Pada mulanya, persampelan dibuat secara rawak bagi menentukan kawasan yang kritikal dari segi parameter. 6 sampel diambil dan setelah diuji didapati kualiti air di kawasan kuala Sungai Tengah agak tercemar. Persampelan seterusnya kami memfokuskan kajian di kawasan tersebut. Penambahan stesyen telah dibuat apabila maklumat didapati tidak mencukupi. Daripada data dan analisis makmal, nilai maksimum untuk setiap stesyen bagi 6 parameter yang diuji adalah seperti berikut : pH (9.27), DO (8.16 mg/L), COD (1255 mg/L), BOD (2.92 mg/L), pepejal terampai (135 mg/L), kekeruhan (81.3 mg/L) dan tiada keputusan yang pasti bagi logam berat disebabkan oleh masalah yang dihadapi tetapi kehadiran Ferum, Mangan, phosphorus dan natrium dikenalpasti. Dapat disimpulkan bahawa kawasan ini tercemar tetapi tidak terlalu kritikal kerana sesetengah parameter yang diuji masih di dalam nilai yang dicadangkan. ___________________________________________________________________________________ As Malaysia develops into a development country, the human population also increased. This will indirectly lead to an increasing in waste disposal and if it is not properly controlled, the possibility of water contamination is high. Several sources that can cause water pollution such as wastes disposal; of the people living in the coastal areas, human activity that irresponsible, migration of leachate during raining season, agriculture, oil spill and so on. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to ensure that they are free from contamination. The main objective of this project is to evaluate the water quality that may caused by the landfill near Nibong Tebal. Initially, samples were taken randomly to determine the critical areas in terms of its parameters. Six samples were taken and after tested it was found that water quality at Muara Sungai Tengah area is quite polluted. We concentrate our study in that area for the next sampling. Station locations were made in form of grid style to cover that area. Stations addition was made due to insufficient data. From the data and laboratory analysis, the maximum value for 15 stations for 6 parameters are as follows: pH (9.27), DO (8.16 mg / L), COD (1255 mg / L), BOD (2.92 mg / L), total suspended solids (135 mg / L), turbidity (81.3 mg / L) and there is no conclusive results defined for heavy metals due to problems encountered but the presence of iron, manganese, phosphorus and sodium were identified. Based on the result, that area is contaminated, but not too critical in terms of tested parameters because some parameters still within the recommended values.
