Waste compositions study from night markets activities in seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang / Abdul Hadi Ali Ahmad
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This research enlightens the waste compositions that are generated from Night Market in Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang. These accumulated wastes from the Night Market contribute to the main source for the increment wastes that are to be disposed at the landfill in Pulau Burung, Pulau Pinang. It is from there that the idea to study the waste generated from the night market and the amount of waste that can be recycled within the area of Seberang Perai Selatan, Penang sparked. The method performed to identify the amount and type of waste produced is by choosing three types of night market which ranges from small, medium and large sizes with the data for each type obtained from three different night market place. Garbage is picked randomly in the chosen night market areas and added into the trash before being weighed. Then, the wastes are to be divided into four sections which each section of random garbage to be weighed according to its type, this method also known as coning and quartering. Upon completion of data collection at every selected night markets, the analysis are to be performed, the total amount of waste produced per week is about 3740.6kg and the total volume wastes is about 76.66m3 per week. The profit that achieved when the wastes are recycles is about RM358.80 per week in area Seberang Perai Selatan. However, if the waste from the night market is not categorized and not recycled, more benefit loss and even the disposed waste at the landfill will grow without any control.
