This Published Document specifies technical requirements under Section 22 of the Telecommunications Act 1984, for terminal equipment intended for connection to analogue interfaces of public networks run by certain public telecommunications operators that provide the following:
1) either earth calling, loop calling-disconnect clearing, loop calling-guarded clearing or loop calling unguarded clearing signalling methods; and
2) loop disconnect pulsing and multifrequency (MF) tone call routeing signalling methods; and
3) either 8 dB, 6 dB or 3 dB maximum line loss; and
4) either normal or enhanced d.c. feeding characteristics;
where the terminal equipment is either self or line powered.
These technical requirements are aligned with Articles 4 (c) to 4 (f) of Directive 91/263/EEC. This
Published Document does not contain any essential requirements for terminal-to-terminal interworking via the public network.
This document applies to all terminal equipment that is intended for connection to the forms of access referred to above, irrespective of whether the terminal equipment provides additional interfaces, telecommunications services or functions.
This Published Document does not apply to terminal equipment for connection in parallel with any other apparatus whose ringer equivalence number (REN) exceeds 0.3.
NOTE. Compliance with this Published Document will not necessarily ensure that the terminal equipment is satisfactory for the user's purposes.
