Tenaga solar adalah tenaga semula jadi yang boleh diperoleh dengan mudah serta ditukarkan kepada bekalan tenaga pesawat. Kajian-kajian telah menunjukkan bahawa tenaga solar boleh diperoleh secara efektif dengan menggunakan trajektori penerbangan yang tertentu. Sekiranya penerbangan dapat dilakukan secara berkekalan, Pesawat Udara Tanpa Pemandu (UAV) solar akan boleh dilibatkan dalam misi astronomi. Sejak kebelakangan ini, eksploitasi tenaga solar bersama-sama dengan tenaga gravity telah dipandang berat untuk melakukan penerbangan secara berkekalan. Cara tersebut biasanya melibatkan pek bateri. Walau bagaimanapun, keadaan cas bateri (SOC) tidak mencapai tahap optimum dalam kajian tertentu. Sesetengah kajian yang lain tidak menetapkan maksimum atau minimum bagi SOC bateri. Terdapat juga beberapa penyelidik yang mencapai penerbangan berterusan dengan memaksimumkan kuasa matahari dengan menyesuaikan trajektori penerbangan. Namun begitu, keadaan ini menyebabkan pembaziran tenaga untuk menyesuaikan trajektori penerbangan. Justeru, pendekatan baru yang dicadangkan adalah dengan menggunakan trajektori silinder menegak. Cara ini tidak akan membazirkan tenaga untuk mengikuti jalan matahari. Selain itu, cara ini akan menguji tentang implikasi penggunaan tenaga penerbangan dalam tenaga keseluruhan pesawat. Tambahan pula, penyesuaian SOC bateri juga dilibatkan dalam simulasi ini. Simulasi menunjukkan peningkatan 4.63 % dalam kuasa bersih minimum, pengurangan 21.54 % dalam kadar pelepasan bateri dan pengurangan 71.09 % dalam berat bateri. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Solar energy is a natural energy that can be harvested easily to convert into energy that powers an aircraft. Researches have shown that solar energy can be effectively harvested by flying as accord to a certain trajectory. If perpetual flights have been made possible, solar-powered UAVs can even venture into planetary missions. Recent trend of solutions focuses on the exploitation of solar energy along with gravitational energy to make perpetual flights possible. The mentioned solutions are equipped with battery packs. However, the battery’s state of charge is not optimised in certain researches. Some other did not set an upper boundary or lower boundary for the SOC of battery. There are also some researchers whom achieved perpetual flight by maximizing power gained from sun by flying as accordingly to the azimuth angles of sun. However, the path planning of flying to follow sun has actually resulted in a comparatively high energy used for propulsion. Thus, a new approach is proposed here by the adaptation of vertical cylindrical trajectory instead of maximizing inclination angle to optimize battery weight. By not spending too much power to follow sun’s path, this approach would test on the effect of power consumption during flight to the overall net power. Besides, the simulation is enhanced with the optimization of SOC of battery. The simulation showed improvements of 4.63% increase in mean net power, 21.54% reduction in battery’s discharge rate and 71.09% reduction in battery weight.
