BS EN 60870-6-2:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the communication protocols for telecontrol systems used in the monitoring and control of water supply systems. It is part of the IEC 60870-6 series of standards for telecontrol systems.
This standard defines the transmission protocols for use in the communication between the control system and the remote terminal units (RTUs) or intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) that are used to monitor and control the water supply system. Specifically, it defines the protocols for communication over a serial data network, such as a RS-232 or RS-485 link.
The BS EN 60870-6-2 standard is designed to provide a reliable and efficient means of communication between the control system and the remote devices. It specifies the structure of the data transmitted, as well as the procedures for initiating, maintaining, and terminating communication.
This standard is widely used in the water industry for applications such as water treatment, distribution, and storage. It provides a standardized communication protocol that enables different devices from different manufacturers to communicate with each other, which is essential for the effective operation of modern water supply systems.
