Automatic ecg acquisition using pic microcontroller / Erdiana Natashsya Zulkifli
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The objective of this project is to automatically acquire 12 lead signals of the Electrocardiogram (ECG) by using the PIC micro controller. The circuit design is divided into two parts; the first part is the analog ECG acquisition circuit and the second part is the control circuit. The control circuit is made up of PIC Micro controller and analog switch which will be used to control the analog ECG acquisition circuit. The PIC Micro controller and the switch will be connected to a patient simulator to substitute a human patient. There are several lead combinations that will be derived from the patient simulator to enter the PIC and switch circuit combination. The automatic control system will then feed the signals into the input of the instrumentation amplifier. The instrumentation amplifier is used to increase the gain of the ECG signals to 100 since the input signals from a human patient or patient simulator are very small (0.1mV 5mV). A right leg driver is also added within the design to help increase the CMRR (106 dB when Gain=100) of the instrumentation amplifier. ECG signals that are obtained from a human patient and patient simulators are often plagued with high frequency noise and 50Hz power line interference. To eliminate this unwanted problem, we need to design a Butterworth Low Pass Filter. The filter will be able to smooth out the noisy signals and allow a much more refined signal to be obtained. All of the 12 lead ECG signals will be presented on the oscilloscope. The hardware developed is able to successfully acquire 12 lead ECG signals automatically and displayed on the oscilloscope.
