11 . General
ISO/IEC ISP 10612 is applicable to interworking units concemed with operating in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) environment. It specifies a combination of OS1 base Standards that collectively provide a MAC relay function between LAN subnetworks. This part of ISO/IEC ISP 10612 is applicable to interworking units operating between CSMAKD and Token Ring LAN subnetworks.
ISO/IEC ISP 106 12- 1 specifies the relay function and LAN subnetwork-independent requirements, ISO/IEC ISP 106 12-2 specifies the CSMAKD LAN subnetwork-dependent requirements, ISO/IEC ISP 10612-3 specifies the Token Ring LAN subnetwork-dependent requirements, and this part of ISO/IEC ISP 10612 defines the Profile RD51.53.
12 . Position within the taxonomy
The taxonomy of OS1 profiles is defined in ISO/IEC TR 10000-2. This part of ISO/IEC ISP 10612 defines the Profile:
RD5 1.53 Relaying the MAC Service, using transparent bridging, between a CSMAKD LAN subnetwork and a Token Ring LAN subnetwork.
13 . Scenario
Figure 1 illustrates the configuration of Systems to which this part of ISO/IEC ISP 106 12 is applicable. The figure Shows two reference points, but an implementation of this Profile may include more attachments to CSMAKD LAN and Token Ring LAN subnetworks with a reference point corresponding to each.
