Analytical model to predict the open-circuit magnetic field distribution in permanent

Analytical model to predict the open-circuit magnetic field distribution in permanent / Ivy Ling Su Ching
Pada masa kini, aplikasi mesin magnet kekal tanpa berus semakin meningkat. Reka bentuk mesin magnet kekal tanpa berus melibatkan ramalan prestasi mesin. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Nowadays, permanent magnet brushless (PMBL) machines are being used in an ever increasing range of applications. The design of the PMBL machines involves the prediction of the machine performance. The finite element method (FEM) provides accurate simulation of magnetic field distribution, back-emf, cogging torque and other machine performances. However, it is relatively slow and time consuming. On the other hand, analytical models are able to evaluate the machine performance in relatively shorter time. A rotating analysis using FEM might take up to three or four hours, whereas the prediction using analytical model can be done in less than ten minutes. Therefore, analytical model is more efficient in evaluating the machine performances. This project develops an analytical model to predict the open-circuit magnetic field distribution in the air gap and magnet region of a surface mounted permanent magnet brushless machine. As the model is developed, graphs of the magnetic field distribution in the air gap and permanent magnet regions are plotted using MATLAB software. A slotless PMBL machine model is built in a finite element software and the graphs of the magnetic field distribution in the air gap and permanent magnet regions are plotted. The two results are compared and the analytical model is validated. The finite element software used is Opera2D, a design software to simulate electrical engineering machines. Next, a relative permeance function is developed to account for the slotting effect in the slot opening region. The permeance function is coupled into the analytical model and the magnetic field distributions are plotted again using MATLAB programming. Two slot-pole combinations, which are 9-slot/10-pole and 12-slot/10-pole are chosen and the machine model is built in Opera 2D. The magnetic field distributions graphs are plotted to validate the new model. After that, the flux linkage and back-emf of the PMBL machine are determined from the derived magnetic flux density functions. The electromagnetic torque is then obtained from its relationship with the back-emf. Lastly, rotating machine (RM) analysis is run in the Opera 2D to validate the analytical back-emf, electromagnetic torque and cogging torque. The analytical results show good agreement to the finite element analysis, therefore the model is valid to predict the machine performance.
