Abstract BS EN 61000-2-9:1996 is a European Standard titled "Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 2-9: Environment - Description of HEMP environment - Radiated disturbance". This standard specifies the high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) environment and its radiated disturbance effects on electronic equipment. HEMP is a type of electromagnetic disturbance that can be caused by a nuclear detonation, lightning, or other high-energy phenomena. It can cause significant damage to electronic equipment and can disrupt critical infrastructure systems such as power grids, communication networks, and transportation systems. BS EN 61000-2-9:1996 provides a detailed description of the HEMP environment, including its frequency range, waveforms, and intensity levels. The standard also includes guidance on the radiated disturbance effects of the HEMP environment on electronic equipment, as well as test methods for assessing the susceptibility of equipment to these effects.
