Secara umumnya, sistem perolehan data digunakan untuk memproses data analog yang didapatkan daripada sensor dan menukarkan ke data digital yang boleh dimanipulasi oleh komputer. Sistem perolehan data merangkumi perkakasan dan perisian. Perkakasan sistem perolehan data biasa mengandungi sensors, litar pengubahsuaian isyarat dan penukar analog ke digital. Perisian sistem perolehan data dibina untuk menghubungi perkakasan dan komputer. Pasaran untuk sistem perolehan data bagi isyarat elektrokardiogram (EKG) meningkat kerana kesedaran umum tentang isu-isu kesihatan berkaitan dengan jantung semakin berleluasan. Terdapat banyak sistem perolehan data tetapi kebanyakkan mereka adalah besar and mahal, dan juga susah dibawa bersama. Jelas sekali sistem perolehan data yang dikawal komputer mempunyai banyak manfaat kerana murah dan senang dibawa. Dalam projek ini, sistem perolehan data berdasarkan USB dibinakan. Perkakasan dibinakan menggunakan Papan Demo MCP3551 PICtail™ yang dikeluarkan oleh Microchip Technology. Untuk perisian, sistem ini diuji dengan antara muka pengguna grafikal yang dibinakan menggunakan Microsoft Visual Basic. Sistem ini memakai Protokol USB HID untuk menghubungkan perkakasan dan perisian. Data yang didapati daripada perkakasan dipaparkan atas komputer menggunakan antara muka pengguna grafikal. Sistem yang dibina ini kecil dan mudah alih. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Generally, data acquisition system (DAS) is used for processing analog data that obtained from sensors and convert them into digital values that can be manipulated by computer. A data acquisition system usually includes hardware and software part. Data acquisition hardware consists of sensors, signal conditioning circuit and analog-to- digital converters (ADC). Data acquisition software is developed for communication between the hardware and personal computer. The market for data acquisition system for Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal is growing as public consciousness on the heartrelated health issues is getting higher. There are many data acquisition systems available, but most of that are bulky and expensive, they are not convenient to carry around. Obviously, data acquisition system using personal computer has added advantage as they are cheaper and portable. In this project, a Universal Series Bus (USB)-based data acquisition system is developed. The hardware is built using MCP3551 PICtail™ Demo Board manufactured by Microchip Technology. For the software part, the data acquisition system tested using Graphical User Interface (GUI) application program developed in Microsoft Visual Basic. The system adopts the USB Human Device Interface Class (HID) Protocol to smooth the communication between hardware and software. The data obtained by the hardware module is displayed on the computer using GUI. The system is convenient as it is small volume and portable.
